However, there is a difference between the two terms, geographically speaking.

Both the oceans and seas are large or vast waters-which account for over 70 percent of the total landmass area. Even as they’re waters, oceans and seas are different in many ways. The major distinguishing factor being the size and location of both.

Oceans are waters between the continents, such as the Atlantic Ocean separates Africa from North/South America and Europe; Indian Ocean separating India from Africa, Pacific Ocean separating North and South America from Asia.

The ocean floor is made up of dense basaltic rock, this is vast continuous body of water, which account for over two-thirds of earth area. The world has seven of these waters.

Seas

Seas are smaller in size than the oceans. They are generally a large expanse of salty water bothered by land, except for the Sargasso Sea, which is defined only by its currents.

The modern day acknoweldged seas are 7. They are the Arctic, North Atlantic, South Atlantic, North Pacific, South Pacific, Indian, and Southern Oceans. With the exception of the Sargasso seas.

Generally, the distinguishing factor between oceans and seas is that seas are boardered by land.

Thsis is, however, not true with the Sargasso seas. The Sargasso Sea is located entirely within the Atlantic Ocean and it is the only sea without a land boundary.

The Sargasso Sea is a part of the North Atlantic Ocean located near the eastern shores of the United States of America and bounded to the west by the Gulf Stream. It received its name after so-called the Sargassum seaweed traces, discovered by European travelers in the 16th century. The sea has got fame for its deep blue water and its extreme clarity. In contrast to most of the other seas on the planet, the Sargasso Sea has no land boundaries except the ones of the western part of the sea, which are the shores of the United States. From its northern, eastern, and southern sides the sea can be distinguished from the Atlantic Ocean only by the color of its waters.
